Short list announced for the 2015 ACT Book of the Year

JOY Burch has announced that four books have been shortlisted for the 2015 ACT Book of the Year Award.

“My sincere congratulations go to the four shortlisted authors: Mark Henshaw for his work The Snow Kimono, Jono Lineen for Into the Heart of the Himalayas, Omar Musa for Here Come the Dogs, and Sam Vincent for his work Blood and Guts,” Joy said.

“This year 24 books were submitted for consideration across a range of genres including fiction, poetry and non-fiction, and the books were considered for their excellence in literature and contribution to the writing sector.

“As always, the standard of work this year was incredibly high, which is testament to the great writing talent we have here in the ACT and surrounding region.

“We are reminded of this wealth of talent every year through the ACT Book of the Year Award process, which provides a platform for writers at all stages of their career, from those who have been writing for decades to emerging writers who are just beginning their literary careers.

“I encourage everyone to read each of this year’s shortlisted books and to enjoy the mystery, honesty, intrigue and entertainment of each of the stories, and then to cast their vote in the People’s Choice, which was initiated last year and will be presented again in 2015.”

The winners of the 2015 ACT Book of the Year Award and People’s Choice will be announced in December 2015.

Each year the ACT Government offers the ACT Book of the Year Award for excellence in literature, valued at $10,000. The Award aims to support the development of ACT-based writers and promote writing in the ACT. It recognises quality contemporary literary works published in the previous calendar year.
