St Hilliers to build the bush healing farm

simon corbell

SIMON Corbell has announced that St. Hilliers Property Pty Ltd has been awarded a $6 million contract to build the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm.

“The $6 million head contract has been awarded to a company with a long history of trading in the Canberra market. This appointment will help stimulate the economy and provide jobs for local sub contractors and local staff,” Simon said.

“At the peak of construction the project is expected to generate 50 full time jobs. When operational the new facility is expected to create more than 10 clinical and support positions.

“The Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm is part of the $880 million Health Infrastructure Program, which is changing where and how patients are cared for. It is about making sure people get the right care at the right time in the right place, be it in a hospital, in a specialised centre or in the community.

“The contract includes remediation of all asbestos on the site as well as construction an eight bed facility that will be a residential rehabilitation service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It will provide a therapeutic community that takes a holistic approach to personal growth during drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

“Entry to the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm will be voluntary for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who would like support and education to help manage drug and alcohol issues.

“The facility will implement culturally appropriate prevention and education programs, reconnecting clients to land and culture, and supporting rehabilitation through programs focusing on agriculture, horticulture and land management.

“The supportive community atmosphere is designed to help participants recover from drug and alcohol dependence and learn to manage life’s challenges in a more positive and productive way.”

The Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm project has been developed through a partnership between ACT Health and the United Ngunnawal Elders Council and construction of the facility will begin in late 2015. It is expected to be completed in late 2016.

The $6 million contract brings the total cost of the project to $8.2 million dollars.
