Teenagers arrested for vandalism in Reid and Ainslie

ACT Policing apprehended six teenagers who caused extensive damage to two buildings in Reid and Ainslie last night (Wednesday, 7 October).

Around 11.30pm police were called to the Canberra Institution of Technology Reid campus following reports of damage being caused inside the building.

When police arrived they could hear loud noises including smashing glass and yelling within the campus. A foot chase ensued with police quickly apprehending the teenage offenders.

While the teenagers were being apprehended, further reports of damage to Ainslie Pre School were received which involving windows being smashed.

The offenders, aged between 14 and 16-years-old, were taken to City Police Station where they were interviewed in the presence of their parents.

The teenagers will be charged with Aggravated Burglary and will appear in the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.

The damage is estimated to be around $50,000.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously. Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
