The Burley Griffin Canoe Club flying the flag at the NSW marathon series

THE flatwater marathon racing contingent of Canberra’s Burley Griffin Canoe Club have been training hard for the last race of the 2015 NSW marathon series, which will be held at Burrill Lake on the NSW south coast this Saturday, October 17.

The series of 10 races, conducted under the auspices of the peak paddlesports body PaddleNSW, is held throughout the state and the ACT—as far afield as Wagga Wagga and Wyong.

To the consternation of the Sydney marathon racing fraternity, Canberra’s BGCC first won the series club points score in 2012, and followed this up with back-to-back wins in 2013 and 2014. And BGCC goes into this final 2015 race with a handy club points lead hoping to retain the coveted Brian Norman Perpetual Trophy.

BGCC’s strong marathon racing pedigree, nationally and internationally, is exemplified by the medal winning results achieved by club members Margi Bohm and Gabrielle Hurley at the Canoe Marathon World Championships held at Gyor, Hungary last month.

More information on BGCC paddling activities is available at bgcc.org.au.
