The end finally in sight for those awful flats

DEMOLITION of the Currong Apartments is scheduled to begin this September with work expected to be completed in early 2016.

The Executive Director of the Public Housing Renewal Taskforce David Collett says the site, located on the corner of Currong Street and Ainslie Avenue in Braddon, will be prepared during August with new fencing and site sheds being erected.

Equipment will be moved onto the site and parking along the adjacent laneway may be restricted at times.

“The Currong Apartments site is one of 13 multi unit public housing developments identified for redevelopment as part of the ACT Government’s public housing renewal program,” David said.

“The program will improve housing outcomes for tenants and support the renewal of Canberra’s urban areas.

“Redevelopment of this site is a key element of the Government’s urban renewal plan to transform and revitalise the City Centre.”
