Scottish twins The Proclaimers will close their Australian tour next year with a concert at The Playhouse on April 20.

Touring only for a week, duo will also perform in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart.

Craig and Charlie Reid have built a reputation for songs of political fire and wit and are said to incite euphoric sing-alongs at their live shows.

Their second album, “Sunshine on Leith”, peaked at number two on the Australian album chart and it includes the signature tracks “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, which was number one in Australia for four weeks in 1986.

In 2007, a rousing rendition of their classic anthem in collaboration with comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, resulted in “I’m Going To Be (500 Miles)”, raising over a million pounds for charity through Comic Relief. That same year, they sold more concert tickets in Scotland than any other single act while on their UK and Ireland tour of 44 shows, performing to more than 100,000 fans.

Other soundtracks featuring The Proclaimers include the successful film “Sunshine on Leith” .

Career highlights include performing on the pitch at Hampden Park to over a billion television viewers before the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, opening the Live 8 Concert in 2005, appearing in an episode of “Family Guy” in 2006, 2007’s triumphant conclusion to their year-long world tour at Edinburgh Castle and being dressed as old ladies for the video of their single, Spinning Around in the Air, produced by Matt Lucas.

After completing their two year world tour in 2013, Craig and Charlie took 2014 off to focus entirely on writing a new album. They recorded their now highly acclaimed 10th studio album, “Let’s Hear It For The Dogs”, and followed the release in April with a mammoth UK run of  more than 70 performances.

Tickets are on sale on Friday, December 11 from canberratheatre.com.au
