SHANE Rattenbury and Mick Gentleman, have announced that works have commenced to revamp the Woden Bus Station.

“The Woden bus station refurbishment project is an exciting one that will give the station a fresh look and make the interchange more accessible, safer for commuters and further revitalise the town centre,” Mick said.

“The works will involve the demolition of the western end of the interchange and construction of new steps and a public lift, with better natural light and improved facilities. The works are scheduled for completion in mid 2016.

“These works are consistent with the recently released Woden Masterplan, outlining the future vision of the area and is a great next step in bringing urban renewal to the Woden Town centre.

Changes to bus services will involve:

• the closure of platforms 1, 2 and 3 with routes 26 and 27 moving to platform 18,
• platform 4 will be a drop off only platform (except for some school services) with routes 80, 88, 732 and 749 moving to platform 18,
• three morning school services 844, 416 and 863 will depart from platform 4,
• route 1 will depart from platform 10, and
• Q-City (Queanbeyan) bus services will relocate to a new temporary platform along Bowes Street, now known as platform 19.

ACTION transport officers will also be at the Woden Bus Station to assist and provide further information to passengers.

“The design for the new Woden Bus Station will really transform the interchange, with a more open design that will better connect the interchange to the Woden Plaza,” Shane said.

“This will be a really welcome change that will not only make the area more functional but I expect it will be a huge improvement in the overall atmosphere of the area.

“Woden Bus Station’s refurbishment contributes to the commitment to enhancing public transport in the ACT. The ACT Government’s Transport Plan will improve our public transport system so it becomes more convenient, efficient, affordable and reliable – a genuine alternative to driving.”
