THE Royal Australian Air Force will mark the 94th anniversary of its formation, with a low-level flypast over Canberra by two F/A-18A Hornets from Number 3 Squadron, RAAF Base Williamtown, near Newcastle, and a C-17A Globemaster from Number 36 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland.
The RAAF was formed on 31 March 1921 as an independent service from the Army, making it the second-oldest air force in the world. The RAAF has its origins in the Australian Flying Corps, which served in the Middle East and European theatres during World War I.
The aircraft will fly from the south of Canberra, over Parliament House and the Royal Australian Air Force Memorial on Anzac Parade at approximately 11.45am Tuesday March 31.
