THE Vinyl Lounge is back at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia Theatrette for 2015.

CANBERRA Multicultural Fringe Festival and SharingStories Foundation are presenting ‘A Song for Country’, to open tomorrow February 6 at 6 pm at Nishi Gallery in NewActon. The show features the work of photographer and award-winning documentary filmmaker Liz Thompson and Senior Liya-dhälinymirr Djambarrpuy?u Cultural Custodian and Songman Nakarrma Mark Guyula. Through image and text, the exhibition, ‘A Song for Country’ explores depth of relationship and connection with Country through Ancestral Dreaming Tracks and Songlines. Runs until Feb 15.

IF you’re in Sydney, you can catch Stanley Street Gallery’s exhibition of works by three painters and a sculptor, including Queanbeyan artist Claire Primrose in her first Sydney show. Primrose says, “I am interested in the surprise element, or the “happy accident” that can only be found with bold experimentation and calculated risk.” The group show is part of Sydney East Art Walk and runs Feb 7 to Feb 21, at 1/52-54 Stanley Street Darlinghurst, 11am – 6pm Wednesday to Friday, 11am – 5pm Saturday.

“MOTHER and Son” is still running at The Canberra Theatre until this weekend. Geoffrey Atherden wrote the first episodes in 1984, but now it’s on stage with Noeline Brown, Darren Gilshenan, Rob Carlton, Nicki Wendt, Rachael Beck, Robyn Arthur, and Sharon Davis. longsuffering second son Arthur is hoping for the chance, at long last, to take a few weeks away and pursue a little fling with his new flame, Anita, but his mother and brother have others ideas. NEW Zealand National Day will be celebrated tomorrow Saturday 7 February at Queanbeyan Park in Lowe Street Queanbeyan from 12pm – 4pm. There will be Ka-Tere-Oke Entertainment, and performances by both Maori and Polynesian cultural groups. This is a family day and is an alcohol free event.

TOM Rowney has been working in glass for over twenty-five years and is one of Australia’s master glass blowers. He has “always been attracted to the ‘glassiness’ of blown glass. Painter Judith White’s luminous and richly textured works reflect the interplay between form and space in the urban environment. Both are exhibiting at Beaver Galleries, 81 Denison St, Deakin, Tue to Fri 10am – 5pm & Sat and Sun 9am to 5pm until March 3.


AARON Jessop is a young and talented folk-rock singer, songwriter and producer emerging from the Melbourne music scene. His EP to be released later this year produces an array of rich melodies and tinges of melancholy. Aaron grew up in Canberra where he formed the acoustic duo “The Sleeves” with fellow indie artist Calum Stenning. He’ll be performing at Front at 8pm tonight, Feb 5.

“VERBATIM” is a solo exhibition by Canberra and Blue Mountains based artist Chris Carmody, exploring entropy and decay in systematic environments. Runs until Sunday February 22 at ANCA Gallery, 1 Rosevear Place Dickson, 12-5pm Wednesday to Sunday.

“ROCK, roll, repeat” is an exhibition of 100 drawings by Chris Sutevski, the first of six exhibitions by the 2014 Canberra Contemporary Art Space studio residents. Beginning with a rock, Sutevski employed a dice to determine how many drawings to make, the tool, time, input, feedback and hand used for drawing. Opens at 6pm tonight Thursday, February 5, and runs until February 15 at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, 19 Furneaux Street, Manuka, Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 5pm.


Tuggers form of Landscape

IN “Forms of Landscape”, Charlie Wells paints her unique perspective on the natural Australian landscape inspired by her travels and every day life. The exhibition opens at 6pm on Friday 6 February 2015 and continues until Saturday 28 February at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Wells will also give an artist’s talk on Saturday 7 February at 11am in Gallery 2. She utilises collected pieces of nature throughout the process of creating her art. The results are abstract and subtle fragments of landscape and memory. This show was originally exhibited in the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in 2013 and consists of 26 works.
