What to do when the power goes out in Canberra

power outage

ActewAGL advise that if you experience a power outage there’s a number of things you can do.

It’s important to check if appliances or lights are working in other rooms, and check your switchboard for tripped circuit breakers or safety switches.

However if your neighbours are also experiencing a power outage, the problem could be external to your house and could be due to a fault in the network or damage to ActewAGL’s infrastructure.

If you see any damaged assets such as fallen powerlines or damaged substations please stay away and call their faults and emergency line on 13 10 93. The sooner they know about a problem, the sooner they can fix it.

If you have a mobile device, you can check the ActewAGL website to see a list of unplanned power outages and remember to also follow them on twitter at twitter.com/ActewAGL for updates.

General Manager Network Services Rob Atkin says “Don’t forget to keep a battery powered torch, radio and spare batteries handy in your home. And in the event of an unplanned power outage stay calm and be patient as they can take several hours to fix, but rest assured our teams will do their best to get the power back on as soon as possible.”
