THE 27th Alliance Française French Film Festival will celebrate “the Indomitable French Spirit”, and director Emmanuelle Denavit-Feller has secured 48 films featuring the acting talents of people such as Fanny Ardant, Louise Bourgoin and Patrick Bruel and, of course, Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu. THEY’VE always been mad about jazz at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery and now we hear the café there will host a three-course dinner and concert show “Jazz in the Key of Blues”, featuring Dorothy-Jane “DJ” Gosper and In2deep – Rachel Thorne and Mike Dooley performing originals and standards. LAST year Canberra Theatre Centre and the RMC Band, supported by the Canberra Labor Club Group, raised $12,850 through the “Music at Midday” concert series. PANTSUITS, pompoms and vaudevillian panache are promised by creators Harriet Gillies and Pierce Wilcox when they bring their one-hour play “They’ve Already Won” to the Ralph Wilson Theatre. THE Childers Group is staging a forum to spark public conversation about the arts in the lead up to the 2016 ACT election. Arts Minister Chris Bourke (Labor), Shane Rattenbury (Greens) and Brendan Smyth (Liberals) will face a panel comprising Paul Daley, Helen Ennis, Chris Endrey and Jenni Kemarre Martiniello, at Gorman Arts Centre Main Hall, 5.30pm-7.30pm, Wednesday, February 24, bookings via eventbrite.com.au.
IN another talkfest, journalists Lenore Taylor and the aforementioned Paul Daley, with Karen Middleton moderating, will kick off the first of Muse Café’s Bipartisan events at 3.30pm on Sunday, February 14. I hear it’s booking out though, so keep an eye on musecanberra.com.au for future such events.
