A Hornet flypast for Thursday

UP to 3 F/A-18A Hornets will conduct two low level flypasts over the RAAF Hughie Edwards VC memorial in Canberra as part of the 3 Squadron Association Centennial Dedication Service on February 11 between 11:15 and 11:45.

“The flypast is part of a range of events that the 3 Squadron Association is hosting to mark the 100th anniversary of 3 Squadron’s formation in 1916,” a Defence spokesperson said.

“The Memorial Plaque is dedicated to 3 Squadron’s casualties from all eras. It also has a special section specifically commemorating four Royal Australian Air Force personnel who gave their lives in flying accidents in Canberra. The first of those accidents occurred exactly 90 years ago on the 11th of February 1926.

“Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military flying.

“Air Force appreciates the support it receives from the Canberra community during this flying activity.”

Information on aircraft noise and current flying activities is available at defence.gov.au or by calling 1300 DEFENCE (1300 333 362) and asking to be connected to RAAF Base Williamtown.
