American-style dance brings crowds to town

NEWS IS to hand that last weekend’s 2016 ASDAC (American Style Dancing and Competition) Outback Crown brought to town 80+ competitors from 8 studios from Australia and New Zealand.

The event also attracted more than 20 professional teachers for 380 heats, 1501 entries and 293 guests at Saturday night’s Crown Ball in The Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden.

The overall winner for the weekend was Lisa Greenwell from the Arthur Murray Studio, Brookvale, NSW, taking home the ASDAC Amateur Crown.  As well, the Top Teacher award went to Dani Mcleod from Arthur Murray in Castle Hill, NSW.

Local husband and wife duo Matt Withers and  Emma Coughlan won first place in the Three-Dance Crown Amateur Couple’s Open Silver Smooth category. (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot)

‘So You Think You Can Dance USA’  & 4 times undefeated US Open Ballroom Champion and judge Toni Redpath’s workshop was a massive highlight for all competitors focused attention on technique – posture, frame and footwork. Canberra’s Danzon Dance Studio will  be hosting Redpath this week for individual lessons and extra workshops.
