JOE Camilleri and “The Black Sorrows” will be back in Canberra next week touring numbers from their 20th album, “Faithful Satellite”.

“The Black Sorrows” currently comprise of Camilleri, vocals, guitar, sax and harp, John McAll, keyboards and vocals, Claude Carranza, guitar and vocals Mark Gray, bass and vocals, with Angus Burchall on drums.

The successor to the band’s 2014 album, “Certified Blue”, “Faithful Satellite” is proof apparent that Camilleri and long-time writing partner, Nick Smith, have not lost their touch with what they call  “swirling images of love lost, end of the line sea journeys, voodoo, Boot Hill and wild rock ‘n roll joy rides”.

“The Black Sorrows” have been around in one form or another since 1983 and the founder, Camilleri, after 50 plus years in music, still chalks up an impressive 150 shows a year.

Also front man to the ’70s band, “Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons”, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007. With “The Black Sorrows”, there was an ARIA Award for Best Group in 1990 and, collectively, sales of over two million records worldwide.

For the recording at “Woodstock Studios” in Melbourne “The Black Sorrows” engaged guest artists like Vika and Linda Bull, the Davidson Brothers, The Silo String Quartet and young jazz players.

Camilleri says, “I’m in it for the long haul…I just want the future.”
