The 42-member Kiama Men’s Probus Choir, with an average age of 78, will perform in the Great Hall, Parliament House, at 11am on Thursday, November 3.

Under the baton of Wendy Leatheam, the choir was created to entertain residents of aged-care facilities and it continues to give more than 30 performances a year in local nursing homes and retirement villages, schools, eisteddfods, Anzac Day ceremonies and local events.

“As musical director, I have a repertoire of several hundred songs from which to choose our programs,” Wendy Leatheam said.

“I try to ensure a balance of music to entertain ourselves and our audiences — our works include classics old and new, standards from the jazz and big band eras, show tunes and film music, spirituals and contemporary pieces and some just for fun!

“Singing together has been shown to have very positive effects on all participants – from generating feelings of well-being and enjoyment, to working together as a team to achieve a sense of shared endeavour.”
