CANBERRA School of Bollywood Dancing founder and director Krisha Jilson is over the moon at the prospect of touring to Port Moresby over the weekend with eight members of her troupe.

Originally trained in the classical art of Bharatanatyam dancing, Jilson taught Bollywood style for 12 years before she established her first school in Canberra in 2006 with just 30 students. Now it is an institution on the dance scene in the ACT, offering classes all around the territory.

The aim, she says, was to share her passion of Bollywood and introduce many Canberrans to the joy of its dance style, as well as to help promote health and fitness through dancing in classes for beginners and those more advanced.

Jilson was named as a Commbank ‘Australian of the Day’ earlier in the year, for her contribution to the community.

She says: “Bollywood dance is a fantastic workout, it’s upbeat, energetic and gets a sweat.”
