Bourke says the NDIS is going great guns

Chris Bourke

CHRIS Bourke says the ACT NDIS trial is progressing well and is on track to ensuring all eligible participants have appropriate access to NDIS supports.

“The ACT has been preparing for the implementation of the NDIS since 2013, and we’re on target to be the first jurisdiction to accept all eligible residents into the Scheme by the end of the first quarter in 2016-17,” Chris said.

“I am pleased to note that the ACT is out performing other trial sites and meeting the commitments outlined under the Bilateral Agreement for NDIS Launch.

“The transition to the NDIS has been a major change for community organisations and individuals across Canberra.

“The ACT Government has focussed efforts on Canberrans living with disability in the ACT and making sure the best possible support is provided to eligible clients, guardians, carers, family members and supporters.

“We will continue to collaborate across the sector to provide a range of supports to people living with a disability.

“This includes support to engage with education and training, participate in recreation, sporting and social events, and to live independently.

“The NDIS also delivers significant economic benefits and practical outcomes to the ACT. It means more jobs for people with disability, more jobs for carers and more work in the disability sector.”
