Canberra man gets his own stolen car back from teen thieves

police

FOUR teenagers have been referred to restorative justice for the theft of a motor vehicle from Rivett on Saturday (27 August).

About 8:30pm on Saturday, police received a report from a member of the public that his vehicle had been stolen.

About 11:45am on Sunday (28 August), the same member of the public witnessed his vehicle being driven along Cotter Road. The man followed his vehicle and confronted four teenagers when the vehicle came to a stop. The teenagers then fled on foot.

Upon arrival, police initiated a search. The youths were then apprehended a short time later following an additional witness report of suspicious activity.

Station Sergeant Harry Hains of Woden Police Station said that ACT Policing would like to thank the members of the public who made contact with police.

“The community is our eyes and ears. If you see someone acting suspiciously, we ask you to contact 131 444 for police assistance or report via Crime Stoppers,” Station Sergeant Hains said.

You can report suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website at act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
