Canberra projects in the running for Property Council national awards

THE transformation of Canberra Airport, the Equinox Business Park in Deakin and the master-planned community of Franklin are finalists in the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

Mary Wood, the Property Council’s Acting ACT Executive Director, says the ACT industry has once again demonstrated its commitment to high-quality, innovative development.

“The Canberra Airport is one of nine finalists vying for the Woods Bagot Award for Best Public Building,” Mary said.

“Canberra Airport’s $480 million terminal is unlike any other transport infrastructure in the country. Innovative design features – such as a climate-controlled indoor taxi rank lounge – and systems that enable it to operate off the grid, provide a fitting gateway to the national capital.

“Franklin, developed by the ACT Government’s Land Development Agency, is one of six national finalists competing for the UrbanGrowth NSW Award for Best Master Planned Community.

“Franklin sets a new standard for economically, socially and environmentally sustainable communities, providing accessible and attractive streetscapes with parkland, active transport networks and great housing choice.

“Equinox Business Park in Deakin is up against just three other national finalists in the LJ Hooker Commercial Award for Best Business or Industrial Park.

“Equinox combines smart, sustainable design with exceptional amenities and an attractive outlook, to deliver an outstanding workplace in a city of superb office developments.

“All ACT finalists are competing for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award.”

Managing Director of Rider Levett Bucknall ACT, Mark Chappe, says that a total of 136 finalists across 18 categories are up for awards this year.

“We are proud to present these awards, which shine a spotlight on Australia’s largest industry – an industry that generates 1.1 million jobs, and employs more people than the manufacturing and mining sectors combined,” Mark said.

“Rider Levett Bucknall has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present this awards program since 1982.”

National award winners will be announced at the 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held in Sydney on Friday 3 June 2016.
