ARTIST Kirsten Farrell is on her way to Turin and Enrico Partengo is heading for Canberra as  the first artists in the Canberra Contemporary Art Space/ RESÒ International Art Exchange Residency.

Throughout 2016 CCAS has been negotiating this new partnership with Italy’s RESÒ Network and it hopes to  provide ongoing opportunities for Canberra’s most innovative artists to explore new territories and foster productive relationships with contemporary Italian artists.

Farrell is well known in Canberra for her colourful works that have referenced everything from great works of literature to spam emails and while  the Cittadellarte in Turin she intends to continue a series of works focussing on the difficulties of making art in uncertain times by using practices of fortune telling, in the land where Tarot first appeared.

Partengo meanwhile, has been researching contaminated zones in the ACT. In his sights are set on toxic relics of former fuel dumps, chemical storage, cattle dips and sites where heavy metals, hydrocarbons, pesticides and asbestos can be found. Through his illustrated survey of polluted areas he imagines creating an alternative photographic history of the Australian landscape.

CCAS director David Broker says, “Exchanges of this type are all too rare and the CCAS/RESO Network collaboration will offer ongoing opportunities for ACT and Piedmont artists. These programs benefit everyone by invigorating local communities with exciting new ideas and stimulating artists practices as they connect with international peers.”

The CCAS/ RESÒ International Art Exchange Residency in Canberra is supported by Russell Kennedy Lawyers.
