CHRIS Bourke has officially launched the ACT Government’s free new Child Development Service in Holder for families who have concerns about their child’s development.

“This might include identifying delays in speech and language, movement, hand skills, self care, social or emotional development,” Chris said.

“For the first time, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, physiotherapists, school psychologists and early childhood educators will be co-located with Child Health Medical Officers and Community Paediatricians.

“This will mean a single access point for families and through early assessment and referral, children in the ACT will get the support they need so they can reach their full potential.

“The Child Development Service is an important part of the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme and into an environment of greater choice and control.

“The free service has been established to be child centred, family focused and in line with the ACT Government’s Human Services Blueprint.

“This model ensures services are better matched to individuals and that families get the right support, at the right time, for the right duration.

“The Child Development Service provides an Intake Service, and families are welcome to attend drop-in clinics for Speech Pathology and Physiotherapy.

“The drop-in clinics are available at Holder, and the three Child and Family Centres in Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and West Belconnen.”

The free Child Development Service primarily provides assessment, referral, information and linkages for children 0 to 6 years, and autism assessment for children aged up to 12 years.
