ARTISTIC director and chief conductor of the Canberra Wind Symphony, Geoff Grey, is never given to understatement, describing the lively ensemble as “outstanding”, “captivating”, “engaging”, “brilliant” and even “triumphant”.

Offering works from major 20th and 21st century composers, this evening displays “luscious”, (that’s our word), textures from the pens of Samuel R. Hazo and Percy Grainger, as well as featuring the “wickedly infectious”, (his words),  “Cartoon” from Paul Hart.

Central to the evening will be the Canberra premiere of James Barnes’, epic “Symphony No. 3”.

As with all their concerts this year, proceeds will go to beyondblue, helping fight depression in Australian farmers.

Canberra Wind Symphony, The Street Theatre, 7:30pm, Wednesday, October 26, bookings to thestreet.org.au or 6247 1223.

The program is as follows:

In Flight Samuel R. Hazo (2008)

Incantation and Dance John Barnes Chance (1963)

Handel in the Strand Percy Grainger (1911)

Cartoon Paul Hart (1991)

Symphony No. 3 – “The Tragic”, James Barnes (1997) 1. Lento 2. Scherzo 3. Mesto 4. Allegro Giocoso
