Coulson says he  still gets to Canberra whenever he can, especially to go trail bike riding, and we’ll see him again at the Hippo Bar this Wednesday.

Actually he  was here  in March 2015 promoting his jazz album “Harry’s Coulson’s Rain Dogs” and now he’ll be back again  to promote his new new album “Blue Dogs’  – much of it rooted in the blues, “but with a very Aussie accent.”  The focus singles are ‘ Let Ya Down’ and ‘Apart – Part 1’ .

Coulson graduated from the VCA in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Performance and completed his honours in the same at Monash University in 2012, as well as attending the summer jazz courses at NYU in the same year. He released his debut album in 2014 under the production of composer/producer Jonathan Dreyfus. in 2015 he won  a TD Jazz Scholarship to attend the International Workshops in Jazz and Creative Music at the Banff Centre in Canada.

Recent performance credits include the St Kilda Festival, Mornington Jazz Festival, High Street Festival, Leaps and Bounds Festival, and the Adelaide Fringe as well as live to air performances on ABC Radio in Melbourne (774), Canberra (666), and on ABC Statewide drive and ABC Central Victoria. His quartet the Rain Dogs were the backing band for Adam Hills at the opening gala of the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

He styles  himself as “a little less refined than other jazz players but less pretentious as well (at least I try to be). Educated and articulate but rough around the edges and with a good deal of bad manners, bad fashion and bad language”.

Harry Coulson, at the Hippo Bar, Garema Place, 8:30pm, Wed September 21, Tickets at the door.
