Disqualified driver ditches her kids to flee on foot

police

ACT Policing apprehended a 29-year-old Mawson woman for drug driving in Forde yesterday (Tuesday 2 February).

About 5.10pm, police noticed a car being driven dangerously in Proud Street, Forde. The driver stopped the car and attempted to flee from police on foot but was apprehended a short distance later. When police returned to the vehicle with the driver, they found that she had left three children aged between two and seven years old unattended in the car.

Police transported the children and the woman to Gungahlin Police Station. The children were cared for by police while the woman underwent drug screening and returned a positive indication for drugs. The result is pending a final confirmation by a laboratory test. The woman and children were then taken to a relative’s address.

Police identified the woman as a disqualified driver.

The 29-year-old woman will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
