FIREFIGHTERS have extinguished a car fire in Wanniassa.

ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the incident on Erindale Drive at 6:52pm and arrived on the scene a short time later.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

The driver of the vehicle noticed a fire in the engine compartment of the 4WD and he pulled-over to the side of the road.

The gentleman assisted his wife and two dogs in exiting the vehicle, then a passer-by stopped and was able to help by letting the dogs into his car.
