The commissioner for International Engagement, Brendan Smyth says: “Given that much of the activity we were going to undertake was to take place in the city centre that has been most affected by the earthquake, we have decided to postpone the public events and business delegation.”

Chief minister Andrew Barr spoke with the mayor of Wellington, Justin Lester and will still be visiting tomorrow to meet with the council and offer his support and best wishes from the people of Canberra, as well as reaffirm that Canberra week in Wellington will go ahead in the future.
