Gowrie man arrested over threats to kill a policeman

police

ACT Policing arrested a 37-year-old Gowrie man on Sunday (18 September) after he evaded arrest and made a threat to kill a police officer.

About 2pm on Sunday, a police officer attempted a traffic stop after recognising the man who was wanted for a first instance warrant.

The man failed to comply with the Police Officer’s requested to stop the motorcycle he was riding. The male dumped the motorcycle he was riding and a short foot pursuit ensued. The police officer caught up with the man who started walking towards the police officer in an aggressive and threatening manner. Attempts were made to stop the man with a baton with little effect.

The man then made threats saying he was going to kill the police officer who then deployed his Oleoresin Capsicum spray which also had minimal effect.

The man ran again and was later located a short time later by attending patrols on Norris Street, Chisholm where he was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (19 September) on charges including the first instance warrant, use of unregistered vehicle, resist arrest, possess prohibited weapon, common assault and threats to kill.

Police will be opposing bail.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
