Ka-ching! Record spending by tourists

THE ACT is reported to have welcomed a record 206,915 visitors in the year to September, according to today’s latest International Visitor Survey.

canberraThis was an increase of 11.2 per cent, although short of the national average growth of 11.5 per cent.

The Tourism Research Australia report also showed visitor spend in the ACT was up 13.4 per cent to $432 million, which was ahead of the national average of 11.0 per cent and a record spend for the territory.

Visitors from NZ and Singapore increased significantly in the past year. Visitors from Singapore were up 45.5 per cent, and NZ 25.2 per cent. The annual reporting period to September covered only nine days of operations of the new direct international air services.
