Labor promises $3 million to spruce up the Tuggeranong Town Centre

Lake Tuggeranong

ANDREW Barr says a re-elected ACT Labor Government will invest $3 million to revitalise the Tuggeranong Town Centre along Anketell Street and between Anketell Street and Lake Tuggeranong.

“The ACT Labor announcement follows on from the $530,000 already invested by the government in the much-loved shopping area to bolster activity and transform Anketell Street into a hub where students, locals and shoppers can relax,” Andrew said.

“With feedback from locals and the popularity of recent developments like South Quay, it’s clear Tuggeranong residents want to see the Town Centre renewed. This funding will deliver better footpaths, better cycle connections, public art, new trees, improved street furniture, bike racks and great areas for the community to gather, all contributing to a renewed vibrancy that reflects modern Tuggeranong.

“A re-elected ACT Labor Government will also consult with the Tuggeranong community on what they want to see happen to the Town Park Gazebo, with a commitment to upgrade the area.

“This $3 million commitment will build on a number of upgrades to the town centre already underway or completed by the ACT Government. The community consultation currently underway for Anketell Street will help shape the next stage of revitalisation.

“Other recent improvements are breathing new life into the town centre, including free Wi-Fi, the new CIT campus on Anketell Street which opened last month, a new water play park, upgrades to Tuggeranong Town Park and funding to clean up Lake Tuggeranong.

“Tuggeranong will continue to grow and evolve and ACT Labor is committed to supporting that growth and change.

“We know people love shopping, working and socialising in Tuggeranong and we want to make it even better.

“Our commitment today builds on a number of investments ACT Labor has made over the years for Tuggeranong. We will continue to invest in the growth and development of Tuggeranong and deliver the services that Tuggeranong residents need for their community.”
