Liberals concerned about ACT income tax

brendan smyth

BRENDAN Smyth says the Canberra Liberals are calling on the Chief Minister to rule out levying his own income tax increase.

“Andrew Barr looks to be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of being granted Commonwealth power to tax the income of Canberrans,” Brendan said.

“Canberrans have to deal with tripling rates and constant increases to government fees and charges like car rego and parking. Now it looks like Andrew Barr wants to take advantage of possible tax changes to slug residents even more.

“Instead of taxing Canberrans more, Andrew Barr needs to spend smarter and the first thing he should do is scrap his economically irresponsible plans to squander hundreds of millions of dollars on light rail.

“For the confidence of Canberrans, Andrew Barr needs to rule out income tax increases levied by the ACT government. Canberrans are constantly being squeezed and an ACT income tax should be out of the question,” Mr Smyth concluded.
