Liberals’ tram ad excites and divides opinion

OVER the weekend the Canberra Liberals launched a major advertising campaign attacking the light rail project.

The ad has drawn an incendiary response from Shane Rattenbury:

ACT Greens MLA, Shane Rattenbury, has slammed the Liberal Party’s latest anti-light advertisement as more deceitful Liberal lies.

“The Liberals are lying about light rail. In one thirty second ad, the Canberra Liberals have managed to cram in more lies than truth,” said Mr Rattenbury.

“In fact, every single thing they say in that video is either an outright lie or deliberately deceitful. The only line of truth is that they plan to tear up the light rail contract and throw away hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

“The Canberra Liberals are lying about the cost of light rail – light rail will cost only a fraction of what we spend on roads but the Liberals are playing deceitful games in an attempt to scare Canberrans.

“They are lying about the trees. The Canberra Liberals know very well that many of the trees along Northbourne are sick and dying, and will be replaced with 1,800 new ones.

“And they’re lying about their bus plans. The Liberals have always opposed investing in public transport – even the ‘red rapid’ service that they put on the front of their brochure. Their plan has no timeline and no costings because they know they will never deliver it.

Mr Rattenbury said the ad showed that the Liberals couldn’t be trusted; “the Liberals aren’t being honest about light rail. This shows they can’t be trusted and will say and do anything to win,” said Mr Rattenbury.

To date it has attracted over 38,000 views on Facebook alone.
