Locals in finals of global hairstyle photo prize

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Canberra photographer Lori Cicchini’s collection of photos of styles by local hairdresser Lauren Cataldo was selected as one of 20 finalists worldwide by the AIPP (International Professional Press Association) in the Best Photographic Hair category.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement in photography and presentation by hairdressers from around the globe. This year there was a record 679 submissions from 32 countries.

The winners will be announced in September and awarded at the AIPP awards ceremony held during the “Alternative Hair Show” at the Royal Albert Hall, London on Sunday, October 16.

The Canberra collection, which features local model Ellie Blyton, is entitled “Let Them Eat Cake”, which Lauren – who does hair and make-up – describes as being inspired by the “coldness of Marie Antoinette and society’s tendencies to gravitate toward, and romanticise, people like her.”

“Let Them Eat Cake” was published in “Surreal Beauty” magazine. Lauren’s work has been featured in leading international publications, including “Vogue Italia”.

Photographer Lori is also this year’s winner of La Grande Photographer of the Year.
