Maintenance works for the Carillon

National Carillon

THE National Capital Authority (NCA) will be conducting planned maintenance works to the iconic National Carillon (the Carillon).

“The works will update the bell structure so that it enables safe passage to tune the ever-important bells,” a spokesperson said.

“All works will be conducted internally to ensure minimal disruptions to visitors to Aspen Island. The community can be assured that the regular Wednesday and Sunday concerts will continue, performed from 12.30 – 1.30 pm. Unfortunately the ringing of the Westminster Chimes, usually struck every hour and quarter hour from 9 am to 8 pm inclusive, will be disrupted and played irregularly throughout the period of works. Locals and visitors will be able to hear the lovely chimes on weekends when they will defer to their regular schedule.

“National Carillon tours will still take place as part of the Canberra & Region Heritage Festival; these tours are almost fully booked but some places are still available. To secure a place, visit nationalcapital.gov.au.”

The maintenance works will be undertaken from now until 27 May 2016.
