Man arrested over Melba crime spree

police

ACT Policing has arrested a 20-year-old man from Giralang yesterday (Thursday, 28 April) for several offences that occurred in Melba late last year.

About 8am on Wednesday 30 December 2015, two men armed with a knife and a pistol wearing dark clothing, gloves and balaclavas, attempted to highjack a car by threatening to stab and shoot the female driver but without success.

The men later attended the 7-Eleven and tried to gain entry but the attendant had locked the doors.

They fled into the street behind the Melba IGA supermarket where they successfully forced a man from his vehicle by threatening to stab him, after which they stole his Toyota Camry.

Shortly after, the men used the second victim’s credit card to commit several fraudulent transactions.

The stolen vehicle was recovered in January 2016. As a result of forensic investigations, the two men were identified and one of the men was arrested in February 2016.

The 20-year-old will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on multiple charges including aggravated robbery, ride/drive stolen motor vehicle and fraud offences.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
