MEEGAN Fitzharris says suburbs across Canberra will soon see the effects of a $1.45 million upgrade to community footpaths and cycle paths.

“The works have now commenced and involve widening existing paths and the installing new paths at 26 sites across 18 suburbs in Canberra to improve accessibility,” Meegan said.

“The suburbs receiving upgrades include Manuka, Turner, Lyons, Phillip, Kambah, Belconnen, Lyneham, Fyshwick, Downer, Barton, Kingston, Chapman, Pialligo, Calwell, Waramanga, Hackett, Mawson and Acton.

“This $1.45 million upgrade will see 3.9 kilometres of new shared paths created, including more than 200 metres of path widening.

“Major upgrades within the project include New South Wales Crescent and Manuka Circuit in Manuka, Glenorchy Street in Lyneham, Were Street in Calwell and Legge Street in Downer.

“These upgrades will ensure Canberrans continue to have some of the best walking and cycling infrastructure in the country. The project follows on from a number of path upgrades in 2015, including improvement to the community paths in Bowen Park, Wanniassa, Kambah, Farrer, Torrens, Greenway, Reid, Campbell, Holt, Narrabundah, Ainslie and Gungahlin,” said Minister Fitzharris.
