“MENZIES WAS NOT a person who stooped to conquer,” former Prime Minister John Howard recently told a Radio National interviewer.
It just shows how the title of Oliver Goldsmith’s play, “She Stoops to Conquer” has entered the vernacular, and now in the fourth production for Canberra REP’s 2016-17 season, the classic piece will be staged at Theatre 3 by Tony Turner.

Plots are hatched at The Three Pigeons Inn when two young men, Charles and George attempt to woo Kate and Constance and, as they say in showbiz, an elaborate tale unfolds.
The creative team includes Turner, Kate Blackhurst, Carmen King, Cate Clelland, Anna Senior, Stephen Still, Tim Sekuless and Brenton Warren.
There’s a cast of thousands, not least Zoe Priest (Kate Hardcastle), George Pulley (Young Marlow), Kate Harris (Constance Neville),Teig Sadhana (George Hastings), Elaine Noon (Mrs Hardcastle), Jonathan Pearson(Mr Hardcastle), Adam Salter (Tony Lumpkin), Anthony Ives (Sir Charles Marlow), Paul Jackson (Stingo the Landlord), Patricia Manley (Pimple the maid), Dale Stam (Diggory).
