Riot at the Hellenic Club

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a disturbance that occurred at the Hellenic Club in Phillip early yesterday morning (Saturday, 8 October).

About 12.45am, police attended the Hellenic Club following reports of a disturbance at an upstairs function.

Police entered the function room and observed a group of males attempting to restrain another male.

Police then attempted to take charge of the incident however a group of males began threatening violence towards police and behaving in an aggressive manner.

As a result a number of males were taken into custody with police forced to deploy Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray to separate those involved in the disturbance.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken with police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6020941. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter pages.
