SIMON Corbell and Police Chief Rudi Lammers have launched a new initiative being undertaken by Crime Stoppers ACT that aims to reduce the prevalence of methamphetamine in the ACT.

Simon was joined by Crime Stoppers ACT Chairman Bryan Roach and Chief Police Officer Rudi Lammers to launch the “Dob in a Dealer” campaign, which encourages people to report drug crime where and when they suspect it is occurring.

“As the Minister for Police and Emergency Services and the Minister for Health, I often hear about the significant issues surrounding methamphetamine use and any community based initiative that assists in the removal of this drug from ACT streets is welcome,” Simon said.

“The ACT Government understands that law enforcement is one element to tackling the issues surrounding ice but just as important is ensuring consumers receive appropriate assistance and support from health care agencies once they have been identified and seek treatment.

“Community information is vital to help stem the prevalence of methamphetamine on our streets. We are aware that some people reporting to Crime Stoppers have an existing addiction, or may have family members suffering from an addiction. I encourage these people to make the call to Crime Stoppers and then engage with health services to discuss treatment options,” Simon said.

The Dob in a Dealer campaign is a nation-wide initiative being undertaken by Crime Stoppers. If you think you have information about someone in your community who is manufacturing or supplying illicit substances, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via act.crimestoppers.com.au

If you or someone you know is affected by drug use or addiction, please contact the ACT Health Directorate Alcohol and Other Drugs Services 24 Hour Helpline on 6207 9977 for assistance.
