Tropfest announces celeb judges

TROPFEST is about to take off again in Sydney, now presented by CGU Insurance—Valentine’s Day style.

The latest news is that Hollywood star of The Mentalist Simon Baker and Australian screen star Rebecca Gibney (‘Packed to the Rafters’ and ‘Wanted’), will join fans at Tropfest On Feb 14 under the stars to judge the world’s largest short film festival. ‘Moulin Rouge!’ cinematographer Don McAlpine and Jocelyn Moorhouse, Director of 2015’s top Aussie film ‘The Dressmaker’, will join them on the judging panel.

They’ll decide who of the 16 Tropfest finalist filmmakers will take home the ‘Fruity’ trophy, $10,000 cash, a trip to Los Angeles for a week of meetings with industry execs, a Hyundai Tuscon for a year, and a Nikon D800 plus $2,000 of lenses and accessories.

Thanks to the event’s saviour, CGU Insurance, Tropfest is again staging a huge and FREE celebration of short film at Centennial Parklands, culminating in the world premiere of 16 spectacular short films incorporating this year’s Tropfest Signature Item, ‘CARD’, which must appear in the film.      The festival actually starts from 11am when gates open for Trop Jr, the world’s largest short film festival – for kids, by kids – presented by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. 15 films from filmmakers aged 15 years and younger will make their premiere at Trop Jr, with winners announced around 2.30pm.

From 3pm onward there’ll live music from rock duo Winterbourne, KLP and The Preatures’ singer Gideon Bensen. We’ll tell you more as the time draws closer.
