On Sunday February 7, auction house Leonard Joel will be presenting the home contents of this celebrated pastoral property. The auction viewing period will commence today, February 4 and will include a celebration of the 60th anniversary of John Gale’s moving to Huntly. Entry is free, but donations are welcome. CELEBRATIONS of all things New Zealand will take place this Saturday from 10am – 4pm February 6 in Queanbeyan Park. Queanbeyan’s ‘Waitangi Day 2016’ celebrates New Zealand’s National Day, with Maori and Polynesian entertainment, live music and dancing. All welcome.


STEVE Brown is re-branding his Bespoke Framing business at 8 Townshend St Phillip to become ‘Canberra Artworks,’ and intends and it will be launching it from 10-4 on Saturday February 6 with an arty carnivale featuring belly dancers. TOMORROW Friday February 5 from 6 to 10pm, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia will step back into the 60s with “Teenage Dream 1966” –free retro entertainment involving a swing dance demo, a 60s karaoke and costume competition, a classic car display, and screenings of the forgotten Aussie film gem ‘Funny Things Happen Down Under’ (featuring Olivia Newton-John). SUMMER Sounds 2016 winds up this weekend at the Australian National Botanic Gardens Eucalypt Lawn. children’s performer and jazz talent Justine Clarke will perform 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Saturday February 6 and local Triple J Unearthed band the Young Monks appearing at the final concert 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Sunday February 7. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a seat on the lawn for the concert.

Kuusisto leads ACO Collective in our season-opener in 2016 in a program that interweaves contemporary works by living composers along with pieces by Tippett, fellow countryman Sibelius, and Beethoven. POPULAR local folk-pop band Pocket Fox will launch their first feature-length album, “The Brightest Light,” with a family friendly garden party in the East Courtyard of Gorman Arts Centre at 7pm on Sat February 6. EXHIBITION and Workshop Bookings are open for SoART Gallery 2016 Program the SoART Gallery, on the Princes Highway beside Narooma Kinema, provides an affordable space for individuals or groups of artists to exhibit their work and hold workshops. Space rental is $90 per week and requires a $100 bond on confirmation of booking. Rental price negotiable for non-profit, school and community groups. VOYAGE wine bottle

“VOYAGE” by one of Canberra’s most promising artists Tommy Balogh, is a culmination of a year of research and experimentation. The exhibition is a large-scale voyage into the lesser known; showing the colour and darkness of places normally beyond our reach. Launch at Nishi Gallery, NewActon 6pm Fri, Feb 5, all welcome. ARTIST Leigh D Walker is currently exhibiting at The Australian National Botanic Gardens. She has exhibiting in the UK and Australia, including in The National Portrait Gallery in London and The Royal Scottish Academy.


QUEANBEYAN Art Society has the opening of its ‘Anything Goes’ exhibition (5 mediums -135 works) opening at 2pm this Sunday February 7. “VISIONARY” at the Gallery of Australian Design presents a range of creative responses to Australian issues, giving insight into creative and design thinking processes of Australian researches. PHOTOGRAPHER and designer Brian Stewart has “A Golden Age: Canberra Jazz 2009-2014” at Smiths Alternative. It’s a photographic tribute to the time, the people, the venues and the music in a time when the students and teachers at the ANU School of Music, aided by other local musicians, were the driving force behind exceptional live jazz music in Canberra. AMERICAN sculptor Corinne Beardsley marks her residency at Canberra Potters’ Society in an exhibition at Watson Arts Centre, Aspinall Street, Watson, 10am – 4pm Thursday to Sunday, until February 7.

THIS week and throughout February, Tuggeranong Arts Centre presents a joint exhibition of key political works in print media by Alison Alder and Bernie Slater. The 2015 recipient of Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s Emerging Artists Award, Jess Higgins, will also exhibit work from her Honours portfolio in February. Joint exhibition opening by Denise Ferris, Head of School at the ANU School of Art on Thursday, February 4, and 6pm. Exhibition continues until Saturday February 27.


THE Australian Centre on China in the World has an exhibition entitled “Photographs of 1930s China” by Stanley O. Gregory, intended to complement the “Celestial Empire exhibition” at the National Library of Australia. It is a selection of rarely-seen photographs of 1930s, taken by Stanley O. Gregory, from original negatives in the NLA Collection, printed in large-format for the first time. In the China in the World Building, Fellows Lane (Building 188) ANU, until March 20, 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday, weekend viewings: February 27–28 and March 19–20, 10am–4pm.


M16 ARTSPACE has Canberran Kerry Shepherdson’s solo painting exhibition ‘Bird in Paradise,’ ‘ Raintrees, guards, and buai: A keyhole view of Touaguba Hill,’ lino-cut prints by Australian artist and aid worker Prudence Borthwick, 21 Blaxland Crescent Griffith, 12-5pm Wed-Sun.

“LOVE  Eyes” is a show by NSW/ACT emerging artist Eliya Nikki Cohen. This is the first time Eliya will hold a solo exhibition in Canberra, and the first Canberra showing of her video installation of the same name. The official opening event will be held 4pm-7pm on Saturday February 6 at ANCA Gallery, Rosevear Place Dickson.


PHOTOACCESS has “In Sequence”, a PhotoAccess members’ exhibition, addressing the notion of sequence and narrative in photography and” Taken Spaces”, new works by Melbourne photo-media artists Madeline Bishop and Leela Schauble. Manuka Arts Centre, (next to the Manuka Pool) until Sunday February 21.


GALLERY@BCS ‘Springboard Series’ presents: Plucked Textile works by Francesca Bleeker and Tundi-Rose Hammond, selected from the Australian National University School of Art’s 2015 Graduating Exhibition. Gallery@bcs Swanson Ct, Belconnen Mon-Fri 9am-4:30pm until February 5.


JAN Matson from Yass (but formerly of Canberra) has a solo exhibition at Ginninderra School House Gallery, her first for 8 years. This exhibition includes oil paintings of local areas such as Yass, Braidwood, Hall and Canberra and a collection of her popular poppy paintings.
