“We’ve taken the concept of a journey and created seven musical sets, each based on a day of the week,” she says . “And each day has a theme, such as ‘determination’, ‘dance’ or ‘humour’”.

Steele became artistic director at the start of 2017 when “CityNews” 2016 Artist of the Year, Alpha Gregory, stood down after 20 years at the helm. Formed in 1969 by Don Whitbread, Woden Valley Youth Choir has given thousands of Canberra children the gift of a musical education.

It is the organiser and official choir for Canberra’s Stage 88 Carols by Candlelight, has appeared at events such as the National Apology for Enforced Adoption and the Canberra Centenary Concert.

At nearly 50 years old, the Youth Choir has entertained generations of music lovers and the coming concet should be in line with that. “Journey” includes many songs from Australian composers, including plenty from Canberra, as well as the world premiere of a new piece, “Travelling Far”, commissioned from former Canberra composer, Daniel Brinsmead.

Guest artist will be Sally Greenaway, winner of the ACT Award for Instrumental Work of the Year at the seventh annual Art Music Awards.
