Police target drivers headed to the snow

WITH only a few days until the official snow season begins, ACT Policing and NSW Police are teaming up to patrol dangerous drivers headed to the slopes.

Station sergeant Marcus Boorman says high-visibility police patrols will target speeding, impaired driving, seatbelt offences and driver fatigue.

“Many Canberrans travel to and from the snow for a well-earned family holiday or just a quick weekend trip. We’re asking that drivers plan ahead, give themselves plenty of time for the trip and plan a break half-way,” he says.

“I know everyone just wants to get there and back as quickly as possible to make the most of their time at the snow, but taking a break half way can be the difference between arriving safely and not at all. Our message is drive safely to arrive safely. Don’t let your holiday turn into tragedy.”

And drivers are reminded that over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend double demerits will be in place from Friday, June 9 to Monday, June 12.

Double demerits apply for all speeding, seatbelt and mobile phone offences and one additional demerit point applies for all other offences.
