Advanced pain centre opens next week

THE ACT Pain Centre, said to be the first of its kind in Canberra, will be opened at Calvary Clinic, Bruce, by Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris on Monday.

Founded by Dr Romil Jain, director of the Pain Management Unit at Canberra Hospital, the new centre will provide a range of private and free services that take a holistic approach to chronic pain management, with specialists and allied health services together under one roof.

Research shows that one in five Australians suffer chronic pain, while at the same time use of opioids and other painkillers is rising and accidental deaths associated with prescription medications now outnumber road deaths.
