‘Vajra of the world’, 2017, by Tim Johnson with Daniel Bogunovic
TIM Johnson’s exhibition “The View from Mount Meru” is on show at the Nancy Sever Gallery from this week. Johnson is represented in the NGA and in 2009 the Art Gallery of NSW and the Queensland Art Gallery presented a major survey exhibition of his work. THE Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is back for its 36th year, celebrating the cultures and voices that make up our local identity with the 2018 theme “my culture, my story”. More than 130 educational or interactive activities will be on offer from April 14–29. Information at act.gov.au/heritagefestival

A PHOTOGRAPHIC exhibition by Kingsley Herbert focussing on coastal scenery and wildlife from South Australia to Tasmania can be seen at Kangara Waters Community Centre, 2 Joy Cummings Place, Belconnen, 10am to 4pm, on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15. All welcome.

JUDITH White’s new show of paintings, “Causeway”, at Beaver Galleries is based upon the central theme of water in ancient European cities and towns. Alongside her work, Canberra glass artist Jeremy explores the term “contour”. 81 Denison Street, Deakin, Tuesday to Friday, 10am-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9am–5pm, April 12 to 29. Belinda Hellyer’s acrylic portraits on paper are on show at Tootsie Art & Design Studio, 289 Comur Street, Yass, Wednesday to Thursday, 9.30am-2.30pm and Friday to Saturday, 9.30am-4pm, until April 21.

“FOLD Yield” is a combined solo of two contemporary jewellers, Peta Kruger and Larah Nott, showcasing the exploration of both artists approach to the cutting and folding of metals to create and construct contemporary jewellery and objects. Bilk Gallery, 12 Palmerston Lane, Manuka, April 13 to May 12. Opens 6pm, Friday, April 13, with both artists present. All Welcome.

MICK Gentleman, MLA, will open the annual ASOC/ACT Catchment Groups Exhibition and Prize presentation will take place in the Fitters Workshop, at 5.30pm this Saturday April 14, all welcome.

BELCONNEN Arts Centre’s new suite of exhibitions features “Matter and Spirit” by Leonie Gill and Gabrielle Soulsby, “Iteration” by Sally Blake and “Tree Corridor” by Sui Jackson. At the Centre, Emu Bank, Belconnen, until May 27.

FOUR new exhibitions are opening at M16 Artspace this week: “Perception”, by Janet Angus and Kate Bender; “Unreal”, by Casey Crockford, Chloe Gray, Alex Hobba, Kon Kudo and Luis Power; “Bird Years” by Ellen Sleeman-Taylor; and in Chutespace, “Damaged Item Returned” by Averil Harris. 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm-5pm until April 29.
