THE Finnish Crazy Games are back again for 2018 to celebrate all things Finnish, such as wife-carrying, hobby horse-riding, mobile throwing, “air guitar” playing and Nordic dancing. THE Canberra mental health film “This Is My Brave” is aimed at providing an inspiring voice for social justice and human rights for people with mental illness. This year’s festival is at the National Film and Sound Archive, 9am-5pm,on Saturday, October 13. CANBERRA-raised musical notable Kirrah Amosa has been announced one of the 30 semi-finalists for the $20,000 Rob Guest Endowment Award. They’ll all perform in front of a panel of judges on October 1 to determine the six finalists.

LUMINESCENCE Chamber Singers are performing Frank Martin’s “Mass for Double Choir”, alongside four new commissions by Elliott Gyger, Brad Gill, Anastasia Pahos and Kim Cunio. At Wesley Uniting Church, 3pm, Sunday, October 7. Tickets at the door.

Marianne Mettes’, “Enviro Puppet Movement” from PuppetOOde at Ainslie and Gorman Arts centres over the school holidays.

DURING the school holidays Marianne Mettes, from PuppetOOdle will be running the “Enviro Puppet Movement” at Ainslie and Gorman Arts centres where participants can learn about the environment and puppetry, create puppets from recycled materials and perform stories about our local endangered species. Some programs are already running but there are five-day programs available from October 8-12, and a single session on October 7, all culminating in a concert at 7pm on October 12. AN evening with Ivan Horvatic and Andrew Rumsey is billed as a sumptuous feast of French piano music. Swiss-Croatian piano virtuoso Horvatic and former Canberran Rumsey have performed in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, China, Canada, Switzerland, Croatia, Spain, Australia and the US.
