CANBERRA’S Pigeonhole Theatre troupe is taking its production of “Playhouse Creatures”, remounted for touring company HIT Productions, with three new local actresses and a new set by Christian Nowak. The tour begins in Port Macquarie and Brisbane during August, with more venues to follow across Victoria and NSW next year. Karen Vickery reprises her role as 18th century actress Mrs Betterton.

CHRIS Latham’s music project “Flowers of War” is coming to an end with its penultimate performance, “The Lost Jewels”, arranged by Latham for soprano Louise Page, pianist Edward Neeman, the Sculthorpe String Quartet and Luminescence Chamber Choir. Music by composers lost to war or disease is combined with the projected images of paintings by artists who died during World War I. THE M16 Drawing Prize for “all kinds of drawing that extends understanding of what drawing could be” is now open to entries. ADHOC Baroque has chosen the dramatic title “The Cruel Game of Love” for its coming concert of music on that subject by Caldara, Steffani, Clari and Marcello. FORMER Canberrans continue to prosper in the arts. Soprano Lorina Gore won a Helpmann for her performance in Brett Dean’s opera “Hamlet”, while in the US actor Laurence Fuller plays an aspiring classical pianist in director Henry Quilici’s “Echoes of You”, screening at the Oscar-qualifying LA International Shorts Film Festival.
