THE Legendary Count Basie Orchestra will be in town to present a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, featuring guest vocalist Carmen Bradford. Billed as the living embodiment of swing, the 18-piece orchestra is directed by veteran trumpeter Scotty Barnhart and features a peerless array of instrumentalists such as trombonist Clarence Banks, hired by Basie himself, as well as former members of Stan Kenton’s, Benny Goodman’s and Lionel Hampton’s ensembles. IN April, Andrew Plant travelled to the Solomon Islands to capture images in support of the Markets for Change Project, documenting the daily challenges faced by market vendors from farm plot to market stall and their enthusiasm in developing a cohesive voice. Now the Belconnen Community Gallery’s “Springboard Series” will show the results in “Voices of the Market” at Swanson Court until August 10. Opening, 5.30pm-7.30pm, on Wednesday, July 25.
