HANNIE Rayson’s classic play “Hotel Sorrento” was a huge hit in 1990 and, 50 productions on, still captures the essence of family reunions when three sisters reunite. Dancer Liz Lea… on the trail of the American interpretive dancer Ruth St Denis

2017 “CityNews” Artist of the Year, dancer Liz Lea, is on the trail of the American interpretive dancer Ruth St Denis in her own historical dance documentary that re-creates a 1926 journey through India. “On the Trail of Ruth St Denis” will be screened at the NFSA Theatrette, 6pm, Friday, July 20, preceded by a discussion with dance writer Michelle Potter. Canberra-raised choreographer James Batchelor… zipping around the UK .

CANBERRA-raised choreographer James Batchelor has been zipping around the UK with his work “Deepspace”, seen at the Birmingham International Dance Festival, Dance 4 in Nottingham, East London cultural centre, Hackney Showroom and finally Arnolfini Centre for Contemporary Arts in Bristol.

“HAPPY Birthday, Wanda June” is “a simple-minded play about men” by satirist and sci-fi writer, the late Kurt Vonnegut. Directed by Cate Clelland in her 11th directorial role with Canberra REP, it’s at Theatre 3 from July 19 (preview) to August 4. Bookings to canberrarep.org.au or 6257 1950.

CANBERRA doctor/pianist Robert Schmidli will perform a program featuring three Scarlatti sonatas, Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 111 no. 32 in C minor and Khachaturian’s Toccata, at the Wesley Music Centre, 12.40pm-1.20pm, Wednesday, July 18. No bookings required, tickets at the door.

IN “Irene’s Wish” by Goulburn playwright and journalist David Cole, moral issues are challenged when an elderly woman with terminal cancer is introduced to a carer by her daughter.
