THERE’s lots to come over the next few weeks as the Australian National Eisteddfod continues this weekend at the Ainslie Arts Centre Hall with its singing section. 

Singing starts this Friday night, August 24, with the 18-years and under “solo” and “duet” sections, which continues through Saturday and Sunday. A range of vocal styles, classical, musical theatre, popular and folk, will be performed at different age levels.

Highlights will include the “open” age Phil Perman Musical Theatre and Joan Richards Classical solo sections as it continues to grow, with twelve and nine entries respectively.

One the following weekend the piano sections will be held, also at Ainslie Arts Centre. This year there will be 300 performances in 57 sections, ranging from seven-years and under to open age.

The open solo sections, from 2.30pm on the afternoon of Sunday, September 2, will feature entrants Bernice Chua, Mia Huang, Celine Kang and Yue-young Sun. There will two new encouragement awards to be judged by the adjudicator, to remember the long-term contribution of the late Ann Thompson.

The 2018 Eisteddfod year will close with the speech and drama section on Saturday, September 8.
