SHADOW Minister for Housing Mark Parton says he is gobsmacked that a family bought a house in Griffith under the Mr Fluffy buyback scheme only to find asbestos left on the block. 

This block was one of more than 1000 under the ACT government’s Mr Fluffy buyback scheme, to be “cleared” of asbestos and resold.

“I am gobsmacked that the government would allow the block to be sold while it was still contaminated when the whole purpose of the Mr Fluffy buyback scheme was to remove asbestos,” Mr Parton says. 

“The families that bought this block have every right to feel gypped by the government. To now expect these families to pick up the tab for a job half-done is out of line.”
